I will be focusing on the following library skills with students in grades Kindergarten through Fifth grade.
Kindergarten:
- Library Orientation
- We will learn how to navigate and find things in our library space.
- Library Citizenship
- We will discuss what it means to be a member or citizen of a group, and discuss the rights, privileges and responsibilities that come with that citizenship.
- Parts of a book
- Specifically front cover and back cover
- How to care for books
- The job of authors and illustrators
- Alphabetical order and practice of our alphabetizing skills
- Self-selection of appropriate materials
- Appreciation for literature
- Literature responses
- Author and Illustrator studies
First Grade:
- Library Orientation
