DCF Battle of the Books 2017-18

About the Dorothy Canfield Fisher Book Award

The Dorothy Canfield Fisher Book Award annually recognizes one new American children's book selected by the vote of Vermont school children.  Each spring a committee of eight adults selects 30 books which create a "Master List".  Students read these books and then vote for their favorite the following spring.  This year's Master List can be found here.

Battle of the books

In the past students at CKS have read as many of the books on the list as possible, and then the top three readers from each class were invited to a pizza party in the library.  This year we will be celebrating the DCF books differently.  Students are encouraged to read as many of the 2017 DCF books as possible by April.  In April students will form teams of three or four and then compete in a Jeopardy style tournament.  The top three teams will receive a prize.  All students in grades four through eight that participate will be invited to an ice cream social after the competition.  More information will follow as it is solidified.  At this point in time, students interested in participating should begin reading the DCF books.  This year's books are displayed in the middle section of bookcases.  Please see Ms. Bearor for help locating the books if needed.
